How do students benefit from gifted education?

* Students make more progress when the curriculum, teaching methods and materials are adapted for their needs
* As with other students with unique needs, gifted students will not reach their highest potential without differentiated instruction for at least part of their education

Does my child need the services provided by the GATE program?

* Gifted children are those who possess or demonstrate outstanding ability in one or more of the following areas:

General intelligence, academic aptitude, creative thinking, productive thinking, or leadership

* Many gifted children are highly curious, discuss subjects in detail, need only 1-2 repetitions for mastery, construct abstractions, initiate projects, thrive on complexity, and are highly self-critical

How are students selected for gifted education?

* A Parent may talk to his/her child’s teacher, counselor, or principal to begin the referral process

* Individually administered nonverbal and verbal ability tests, parent and teacher rating scales, and achievement test scores or core academic subject area grades determine eligibility in the Clark County School District gifted program
