I am pleased that you came to visit the Theron & Naomi Goynes Elementary School web site! This web site was designed particularly for the students, parents and teachers in our school community.
We have designed this site to be family friendly and have included a Student Desktop (links page) for children and Parent Desktop for parents. My hope is that this web site will be another important way that we can let you know what is happening as we work together during the 2007-2008 School year.   Please take some time to look at our various pages of information. The resources found here will help you know more about school policies, plans and the calendar of events.

Let me take a moment and share with you a little about myself. Over the years, as a teacher, assistant principal and principal, students have called me Mr. Hi. My last name is pronounced Hi-bargrrr. I have been an educator for Thirteen years and my experiences have included primary age and intermediate age students including G.A.T.E. students. I am a native Nevadan and am pleased to be a life-long Las Vegan. I have seen the city change in so many remarkable ways. I have three children (two boys and a girl ) which range in ages from eighteen, sixteen and seven. My wife and I have been married for 23 years.

Las Vegas has provided me and my family with so many wonderful memories, and life long friends. It is remarkable how close we are to so many great places to visit by living in the Vegas Valley. My family and I have camped in many places in Nevada and the surrounding states and love the outdoors. This summer my son and I traveled to the High Uinta's (A mountain range in Northeast Utah) and spent a week hiking and fishing.  Each of the boy scouts and leaders that went on this summer trip had to complete a 50 mile hike within this vast wilderness area.  It was a challenging hike, but well worth the planning that went on before we left.  Thinking about this hike led to this year's school theme "Keep Climbing."  This year, I see our school continuing to climb higher as we work as an entire community to increase student achievement.  While we did make AYP, it is clear to us that we are close to becoming a high achieving school as determined by the state criteria.  I believe we can do it this year. Our students are wonderful and have such great capacity to learn and grow.  I believe that if we work together toward our common goals and "Keep Climbing" we will continue to increase achievement in all our students.

I continue to believe that children are the very future of our country and world and what we do for them will impact us in so many vital ways. As we begin the 2007-2008 school year, please feel free to contact me or your child's teacher should you have concerns or questions related to your child's education. I know that the work we do together can have lasting impact in the life of your child and the entire student body. Please do not hesitate to contact me, as we work together and as we continue to build the instructional program at Theron & Naomi Goynes Elementary School. Thank you for visiting.

You can e-mail me or speak to me at the school.

Best wishes for the 2007-2008 School year!
