Every
year, schools around the nation participate in the PTA "Reflections"
program. Reflections is a cultural arts contest which encourages each
student that wants to participate to explore his/her creativity abilities
by choosing within seven domain areas or categories to express the theme.
The 2006-2007 student prompt or global theme for the Reflections program
is "My Favorite Place..." Each student can use this prompt
as a starting point to begin to express themselves through Literature
(writing a story, poem etc…), Musical Composition, Photography,
Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, Film/Video Production, or Recycled
Art. A student can choose to complete a creative work through one of
these seven domains/categories or can choose more than one domain/category
if he or she wants to complete more than one creative project.
As
a parent or guardian, you will be required to sign a permission slip
form and an entry form so your child can participate. I have attached
both of these forms to this introductory letter. If your child chooses
to enter work in more than one category, the contest rules require the
parent or guardian to sign a parent permission slip for each entry.
For example, if your child chooses to express the theme using two categories
such as Musical Composition and Photography, you would need to sign
two permission slips and attach them to each separate project. Each
permission slip stays with each project entry. Students can receive
information about the guidelines for each category from Mrs. Weight
(Art teacher), the school office, at our school website (http://goynes.ccsd.net/reflections.htm).
The completed project including entry form and permission slip for all
students will be due on November 8, 2006. Students who are on Track
four may turn in their completed entries on or before October 31, 2006,
or they may wish to turn them in by November 8, 2006 with the rest of
the students.
Mark
your calendars so that, if your child submits a project, you can attend
an award reception on Thursday, November 16, 2006. All of the entries
will be displayed at that time and an award ribbon will be given to
each student to honor his/her effort. This will be a fun and exciting
opportunity for the children who complete projects to see their projects
displayed and be recognized for their hard work. We will submit the
projects to the state and wait to see how our students do. Last year,
several of our students won state awards.
The
Goynes staff and PTA board endorse this program and encourage students
to participate in this year's Reflections contest. We hope that, as
a parent or guardian, you will encourage your child's participation.
Best wishes to all the students who enter this contest.
